What will happen next?             

Topics: patterns, following directions, addition/subtraction, counting, cause and effect, predicting

Activities To Do Together:

  • Predict what will happen next as you follow the directions throughout the book.
  • Make your own patterns with colorful dots.

  • Design some new pages to include in this book. Think about:

    • A direction to get a new color dot

    • A direction to get a new pattern

    • What would happen to the dots if you hugged the book really tight?

    • What would happen to the dots if one person hid the book and another person found it?

Extension Questions:

  1. Are there the same number of dots on each page? Find a page that has less than 5 dots. Find a page that has more than 10 dots.

  2. If you were the author of this book what would you tell the reader to do? What would this make the dots do?

  3. If you had a page with 6 dots and you only wanted 4 dots, what direction would you give the reader?

  4. What is your favorite direction in the book? What happened as the result of that direction?
