Learning Progression:
Infant/Toddler Geometry
Infants and toddlers are naturally inquisitive. Their understanding of spatial relationships occurs through exploration and observation of their environment.
Children quickly develop an awareness of the relationship between objects. You may have experienced this if you have watched a child figure out which objects they can put inside a box or whether they can scoot into a small space.
Infants and toddlers are also keenly aware of other people. They note what people do and observe the interrelationships between these people.
All of these actions are related to a child’s developing understanding of spatial relationships.
