Infant/Toddler Curriculum: Supporting the Development of Early Math Skills

Participants attending this session will have an opportunity to learn about how to plan for emergent mathematical thinking for infants and toddlers. Using a reflective curriculum planning process as the foundation, the session will explore how everyday experiences can support the learning progressions of early math concepts.

Arlene Paxton is the Content Area Team Director for Infant and Toddler Care at WestED. In addition, she is the Director of two key projects: the Program for Infant/Toddler Care (PITC) Regional Support Network and the San Francisco Quality Connections, QualityImprovement System. With more than 20 years of experience working to design and develop systems that support the professional development of early educators serving children from birth to three and their families, Ms. Paxton’s work aims to increase the capacity and improve the quality of early care and education services through the delivery of training and technical assistance.

Arlene Paxton

Amber Morabito is the WestEd, PITC Regional Support Network Regional Coordinator in Northern California and an Adjunct Professor in the Behavioral and Social Sciences department at Santa Rosa Junior College. She has worked in Education for over 20 years and has held a wide variety of positions in the fields of early childhood education (ECE) and higher ed (i.e., ECE Teacher, Supervisor, Consultant, PITC Infant Toddler Specialist, Coach, and Trainer). Morabito has her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology and is a self-professed life learner that believes research informs her practice. In her work with others, Morabito hopes to be of service to children, parents, students, and her colleagues to inspire, empower, and validate their experiences.
