Activities to Do Together:

  • Collect 25 paperclips, pebbles, or other small objects. While reading make the different formations of the 25th squadron with the objects. What is the remainder?
  • After reading, randomly chose an amount of paper clips and make different formations out of. Note the remainders.

  • While having a snack divide the pieces into equal groups. See how many equal groups you can make and if there is ever a remainder.

  • Talk about remainders. Ask your child to explain what the word remainder means. 

 

Extension Questions:

  1. Are there other ways to divide the 25th Squadron into equal lines and rows? Why or why not?

  2. What if there were only 20 bugs, what ways could you divide the bugs into rows and lines evenly?

  3. If you divide 18 by 3 is there a reminder? What if you divide 19 by 3, is there a remainder? If there is a reminder, explain why?
